As a Las Vegas Family Photographer, this is probably one of the most special sessions I have done to date. I was blessed to be introduced to a lady by the name of Anastasia Renee on Instagram through one of my photography groups on Facebook. Renee is a huge advocate for spreading cancer awareness and providing amazing support to cancer families and the cancer community. She wanted to bless several families with a Portrait Session for Mothers Day and was seeking out photographers to donate their time for one special family. She paired me up with the Sanchez Family and introduced me to little Benji and his mom Azalea. What a gift! Little Benji is a brain cancer warrior and survivor.
Mom and I chatted over the phone about what she envisioned for her session and I provided my ideas to her. I told her I wanted to document her whole family. She has never had a custom portrait session before and I really wanted to include everyone in their session. They are all a part of this journey together and I really wanted to showcase their love for each other.
The day of the session, it was crazy windy outside! We initially had another location in mind that was more open, but with the high winds, it was not going to work. We debated rescheduling the session, but decided last minute to move locations. Honestly, I feel like this location was meant for them. This was my biggest gallery to date. I simply could not stop documenting their family and I couldn’t find it in me to leave anything out when culling through their session.
Their love and laughter overflowed throughout their session and I felt so comfortable around them. Like we could be family friends. Benji is an incredibly strong willed little soul, so full of life! He wanted to run and play and explore and can you really blame him? Spending a big part of his short life in the hospital and now being free to play outside is a HUGE deal for him! I, of course, pulled every game I had out of my back pocket to encourage playful interactions and tender moments! I big puffy heart this family and feel so honored to have been able to gift these images to them. It was so hard could not pick a small few to share, so I apologize for the overshare!
