what to expect

The favorite part of my job is that I get to work with families to capture your honest, authentic, messy and beautiful love for another! Yes, we'll set shots up and tweak things to make you look amazing, but my number one goal is that you walk away with genuine photos that truly capture this season in your family life.

While I do provide a few sit and smile images, most of the time I will be encouraging you to not look at me and focus on your family through guided queues and play. If you have smaller children, please don't have them practice saying cheese! I will never ask them to say cheese once during your session! I want their natural expressions, whether joyful, serious or shy! Let me do the work behind the camera.

Every family and every personality is different. If you have smaller, energetic children, expect to move A LOT during your session. I will be asking you to play games with your kids all throughout your session. Energetic children require movement to stay engaged. If you have children that are more reserved, serious, or older, your session might focus on more quieter and intimate moments between family members.

The beautiful part of my job is that families are constantly growing and changing, and I get to capture those incredible moments in time for you to hold on to, because they go by so fast!

frequently asked questions

What is your shooting style for family photos?

I am a lifestyle photographer, and my style is geared towards capturing real moments! This means getting you interacting rather than posing, and having a fun time together because that is where the magic happens! I will 100% guide you through the process!

What if my kids won't engage?

That's okay! Many children are shy or have a hard time with posing for photos. This is why we forget the posing and just get you all hanging out and loving on each other! You enjoy the moment and I'll worry about the photos. I will not force a child to do anything he or she doesn't want to do. It will only make them upset and they will not enjoy the experience. I am very good at feeling out personalities and adapting to any situation.

Are sessions indoors or outdoors?

All session locations are chosen by collaboration with you to bring your unique vision to life. I am happy to do on location or an in-home session. There is also a great shared natural light photography studio in town that is available for rent.

What time do you book your sessions?

Golden hour is the most beautiful light of the day and the time when all my outdoor sessions are scheduled (about 1 hour prior to sunset). I do not book any outdoor sessions mid day, but I can book sunrise sessions if that works better with your schedule. In-home sessions are usually scheduled in the morning before nap-time for little ones.

How long is the typical photoshoot?

Depending on your session type, the time can be anywhere from a fast 30 minutes to a 60 minute session. Newborn Sessions tend to last between 60-90 minutes depending on baby.

When should I book?

Booking well in advance for a family session is recommended! My wait times for spring and fall season can range from 3-5 months in advance. Session dates are booked on a first come, first serve basis and only held once a retainer has been received. Please don't wait if you are inquiring for a fall or spring date. These go really fast! Newborn sessions are always welcome any time of year as they can be booked during weekdays too! I will work with you to plan out a date once the baby arrives.

What should I wear?

I use Style & Select to style all my clients. Style & Select is an online styling tool that helps you find and coordinate outfits for you and your family that is specific to portrait sessions so you are guaranteed to have the perfect wardrobe for your session.

Can I cancel/reschedule my session?

After booking, retainers are non-refundable, as I am holding the date for you and turning away other clients. If you need to reschedule, you must notify me at least 24 hours in advance, unless you are sick.

when is payment due?

Your retainer is due before the date can be reserved. The remainder of your balance will be due within two weeks after receiving your proofing gallery back from me. Photos cannot be delivered until full payment has been received. All invoices will be sent through PayPal. You do not need a PayPal account to pay an invoice.

What happens if it rains or is windy?

If your session date gets rained out or has winds in excess of 20mph, we can reschedule for another date. Depending on location and wind velocity, I may suggest a location change in order to still conduct your session on scheduled date if needed.

still have questions?

Please don't hesitate to contact me any time with your questions.

I am available by email and text at any time of day!

I look forward to working with you!
